Dental Exams

Composite fillings are tooth colored restorations used to repair teeth affected by decay, cracks, fractures, and for cosmetic reasons. Composites are made of a resin material that is bonded to the teeth and allows the dentist to match the shade or color of the natural dentition. They are especially useful when restoring anterior teeth where aesthetics are a concern. Amalgam is a silver filling that is used to restore posterior teeth. Like composite it is a safe and long lasting restoration but its advantage is its strength which makes it ideal for biting surfaces.

Root Canals

Root canal treatment involves treating the nerve of the tooth. Decay, trauma, fractures, or severe gum disease are the most common factors that contribute to a need for root canal treatment. During a root canal the dental pulp or nerve tissue is removed from the root canal chamber and replaced with a gutta percha filling and sealed.

Crown & Bridge

A crown, sometimes called a cap, is a permanent restoration that fits over the existing tooth. It helps protect a tooth with extensive decay or a tooth that has had a root canal or has fractured. Crowns can be made from gold, silver, or porcelain to match the shade of the existing teeth. A bridge is a fixed restoration involving multiple crowns used to replace a missing tooth or multiple teeth. When a lost tooth is replaced by a bridge, the teeth on either side of the missing one are crowned and used as abutments to hold the replacement tooth in place.

Veneers

Veneers are similar to crowns but instead of covering the whole tooth they restore only the front portion of the tooth leaving the rest untouched. Veneers are primarily used on anterior teeth for aesthetic reasons and because they are made from porcelain they are able to change the color of the teeth or are able to match the shade of existing teeth.

Dental Implants

Dental implants are the newest way to replace missing teeth. The implant involves replacing the root of the tooth with a titanium screw that will anchor the crown. This allows the dentist to restore a missing tooth without compromising the adjacent tooth. Dental implants function much like a natural tooth providing the patient with improved comfort and fit.

Dentures & Partial Dentures

Dentures are used to replace missing teeth with a removable appliance. If all the teeth in an arch are missing they can be replaced with a complete denture. If some of the teeth are still present we can use a partial denture to replace the missing teeth and fit the partial around the existing teeth.

Teeth Whitening

Teeth whitening involves using custom trays that fit around the teeth and a bleach solution of varying strengths to change the color of you natural teeth. The tray is worn for a few hours each night and will change the shade of the teeth over a period of a few weeks.
